KMK inspected, analysed and optimised the operation of a major export terminal. Unfortunately, failures were interrupting the operation of the plant while further expansion of the facility was expected, and validation of new machines and processes was needed.

• Finding Inaccuracies – in the operation cycles of the machines – introducing shock loads
• Installation issues – led to motors opposing each other during operation
• Inefficient bottlenecks – adding downtime during loading and unloading operations

Failures due to shock loading were stopping operation until the sourcing of long lead items was possible. After analysing the operating cycles KMK found the causes and fixed the shock loading issues for the future. Although this was a greenfield project, material throughput was being interrupted, and so with the addition of some buffer storage, KMK found vast improvements in throughput.

Improvements to the whole plant operation could increase export by 3 million tonnes per year.
